Julie Walters, Craig Parkinson & More Cast In Channel 4/PBS Co-Production ‘Indian Summers’
Julie Walters (Harry Potter), Craig Parkinson (Line of Duty) Henry Lloyd-Hughes (The Inbetweeners), Jemima West (The Borgias), Nikesh Patel (Bedlam), Roshan Seth (Gandhi), Lillete Dubey (Monsoon Wedding), Alexander Cobb (Mr Selfridge), Fiona Glascott (Episodes), Amber Rose Revah (What Remains), Aysha Kala (Shameless), Olivia Grant (Legacy) and Edward Hogg (The Borgias) have been cast in the upcoming 10 episode (1×90, 9×60) Channel 4 and PBS co-production Indian Summers.
Walters has been cast as Cynthia, doyenne of the Royal Club who is described as a “force to be reckoned with”; Parkinson as Douglas, who runs a missionary school; Lloyd-Hughes as Ralph Whelan, the Private Secretary to the Viceroy of India; West as Alice, Ralph’s sister; Patel as Aafrin, a Junior Clerk in the Viceroy’s office; Seth as Darius; a gentle man and veteran of The Great War; Cobb as Ian McLeod, the Scottish tea plantation heir; Glascott as Sarah, Darius’ (Parkinson) wife; and Revah as Leena, mysterious Anglo Indian woman
Created by Paul Rutman, Indian Summers tells the rich and explosive story of the decline of the British Empire and the birth of modern India. Following an assassination attempt at the Royal Club in Simla stories of promises, secrets, politics, power, sex and love play out as the British Raj begins to falter and a nation opens its eyes to the possibilities of freedom. New Pictures is producing the drama series in association with PBS Masterpiece. As TVWise previously reported, Anand Tucker is attached to direct, The executive producers are Charlie Pattinson, Simon Curtis, Elaine Pyke and Rebecca Eaton. Production is set to commence this Summer for a 2015 premiere.
